OutRip guarantees a Legendary at fifty packs, and a Legendary happens on its own once in 410,198 rolls

Open fifty packs in a row without pulling anything good, and you are owed a Legendary. Left to chance, a Legendary happens once in 410,198 rolls.

Both of those are ours to keep. The gap between them is the design problem, because a promise made to a paying person cannot be kept by rolling the dice again and hoping.

OutRip is a board where you rip a pack of collectible cards for your product, and your single best card's rating is your rank on the public standings. It is for anyone who shipped something and wants it ranked somewhere other than a directory. What you get is cards, downloadable images with your product's name on them, yours whatever rank you finish at, plus your place on the board for as long as your best card holds it. Five cards is $5, fifteen is $12, ninety is $59. Prices read off the live packs page.

Six slots, and a rating anybody can check on paper

Every card is six independent draws: species, colour, eyes, corner sigil, surface finish, mint band. Each slot's frequencies are printed on the site. Multiply the six probabilities, take one over the square root, round it, and that is the rating. Nothing else feeds it, which is why the card you are looking at is the card that scored.

Enumerating all 201,600 combinations against the published weights: the worst possible card rates 57, the best rates 9,128,709. The tail is heavy by construction, so first place is always beatable and there is no top card to reach.

The ladder builds the card instead of waiting for it

At ten dry packs we owe a Rare, at twenty-five an Epic, at fifty a Legendary. Those bands sit at the far end of a curve nobody can be asked to wait out, so the gate starts from the roll you were going to get and swaps one slot at a time to that slot's rarest value, stopping the instant the band is met. It is the smallest upgrade that clears the promise, never a free jackpot.

Species escalates last, and only as far as Colossus. Sovereign is the top species at 0.2 percent, and no counter may hand one out. It is pull only, always.

The floor is checked, not claimed

Every pack returns at least what you paid, in card value. A card is worth half its rating in cents and never less than a dollar, so five cards cannot come back under $5 and ninety cannot come back under $59. That arithmetic holds for every pack we sell, and the mint still asserts it before it writes anything. A pack that failed to clear the floor would throw, and nobody would be charged for it.
