Brand
The identity of Compound Labs, and where every part of it comes from. Each section names the file that ships the thing it describes.
The lab
Compound Labs researches, builds, ships and documents its own software products. The lab is independent. It runs on its own products, its own experiments and its own findings, and the work is published as it happens rather than after it is finished.
What the lab does
- Builds and ships software products, each one with its own name, its own site and its own identity.
- Runs experiments that may last a day. A short experiment is the lab working as intended, not clutter to prune.
- Writes build notes and findings, and publishes them.
- Builds the AI workflows that run all of the above: the agent lanes, the publishing lanes, the generation pipelines, the gates.
Never
Compound Labs is not an agency, a consultancy, a client-services shop, a design studio or a product studio, and it is not for hire. It sells no services. There is no rate card, no package, no retainer and no turnaround promise. Any sentence that describes the lab as one of those things is wrong, whoever wrote it.
Scope
The scope is AI in everything: in the products, in the process, in the workflow, in the branding, in the distribution and in the experimentation. The range across unrelated domains is the point. A product names its own market as loudly as it likes. The lab itself never takes a single-domain label.
The name
Compound Labs, both words, on first use and in every byline.
- Compound Labs is the name. Compound on its own is contested by other live commercial entities, so the short form carries no identity and is never used as the brand.
- The founder is Isaiah Kim, @kyisaiah47. Outward work uses the handle rather than the legal name wherever a handle fits.
- Products are never named after the lab. A product is called what it is called.
The former name
The lab was Kynth Studios, at kynth.studio, until September 2026. Every kynth.studio address answers with a permanent redirect to the same path on thecompound.tech, and those redirects stay live: an old link has to keep resolving for the entity to stay joined to what was published under the old name.
Internal paths, repository names, keys and historical records keep their old spelling on purpose. A directory called kynth- something is a compatibility name, never a statement about what the lab is called.
The mark
One logo: the isometric cube. It is drawn as a stack of unit cubes in three tones of one grey, which is the construction every object in the lab’s media uses.
How it is drawn
- A 240 unit square. Every face is a rhombus on the same isometric axis, so the mark reads as one solid rather than a pattern.
- Three tones and no more: #ffffff on every top face, #d8d8d8 on every right face, #b0b0b0 on every left face. The light comes from one direction and never moves.
- The group carries shape-rendering="geometricPrecision". Without it the shared edges between faces pick up seams at small sizes.
Which cut, where
- Bare on any dark ground: compound-labs.svg, which is what thecompound.tech serves at /brand/compound-labs.svg.
- Plated on any light ground: compound-labs-plate.svg. The plate is also the apex favicon geometry.
- Ship the SVG. One raster exists, compound-labs-plate-512.png, served at /email/compound-mark.png, and it exists for one reason: Gmail and Outlook strip inline SVG and will not render an image pointed at one. Email is the only place it is correct.
Banned
The red-diamond cube, shipped estate-wide as compound-labs-dark.svg and as an outreach email header, was deleted on 12 September 2026. It is not a Compound Labs logo and never was. A surface still serving it is out of date.
Where the files live
- compound-opsbrand/compound-labs/logo/
- the sitepublic/brand/compound-labs.svg
- emailpublic/email/compound-mark.png
- the recordbrand/compound-labs/logo/MANIFEST.json
The manifest carries an md5 for each cut. The copy the site serves matches the manifest’s own bare hash exactly, which is how a drifted mark gets caught.
Type
Two families. BDO Grotesk for everything typeset, Geist Mono for labels. This is a ceiling, not a starting point.
The face
Compound Labs
BDO Grotesk. Every headline, every deck, every card, every wordmark. On thecompound.tech the page heading computes to BDO Grotesk Variable, measured in Chrome at 1440 on 12 September 2026. Tracking tightens as the size grows, which is where the face earns its place.
The support
R&D LAB
Geist Mono. Labels, kickers, stamps, dates, handles, file paths and figures in a table. It is the voice of the machinery, so it never sets a sentence a person is meant to read as prose.
- 800Independent product R&D lab
- 600Independent product R&D lab
- 400Independent product R&D lab
Never
Not Bricolage Grotesque, which was the old studio’s face and still appears in inherited templates. Not a display cut off the poster shelf in brand/fonts.mjs: those are licensed for a cover or a poster and none of them is an identity face. A third family on a Compound Labs surface is a defect.
Colour
A near-black ground, cream ink, one grey between them, and a single red that is an accent and never a text colour.
The accent rule
- At most one accent per composition. A card, a banner or a page carries one red thing, or none.
- Red is never body ink. Aurora red on the ground measures 4.16:1, under the 4.5:1 floor for text. It is correct as a fill, a bullet, a rule or a hairline, and wrong as a sentence.
- Quiet grey is a colour, not an opacity. Cream at 34 percent measures 2.84:1 on the ground and looks the same to the person choosing it, which is how that defect keeps coming back.
Every ratio on this page was computed against the #0a0a0a ground on 12 September 2026.
Ground and object
Every piece of Compound Labs media is one subject standing on a dark plate with a continuous isometric lattice.
The ground
- A dark, restrained plate. The lattice runs edge to edge and is never cropped to a panel or a box.
- No coloured ground, ever. No gradient field behind a subject, no accent wash, no aurora. That was the old studio’s register and it is retired.
The object
- Hard edges, flat faceted planes, blocky low-poly construction, true isometric alignment with the lattice.
- A transparent background, always, so the object stays a separate layer from the type and the signature.
- Generated per task by the 3d-image-gen skill through compound-object-generate.mjs. Every production render gets its own newly generated object with its own receipt.
- The subject can be anything that reads: a tool, a machine, an instrument, a building, a retro computer, a workstation, a group of objects that belong together. Real material colour is allowed.
Banned
Smooth, soft, rounded, clay or plastic objects. Any coloured or accent ground behind an object or a card. Any 3D route other than the skill’s own generator. A reused object from an earlier card, an example, or a library.
Media
One renderer draws every still the lab publishes: compound-ops/social/tools/landing-card.mjs. Feed cards, portrait slides, covers, banners, thumbnails, newsletter heads and vertical frames are variants of that one system. Each platform gets its own native canvas at its own size, composed for that size. A crop is never stretched from one surface onto another.

The two corner layouts
Feed cards and covers
Headline top left. The Compound Labs signature bottom left. A supporting fact bottom right. The object on the lattice between them.
Banners and the video intro
Signature top left. Platform identity top right. The tagline bottom right. Bottom left stays empty. The object sits in the middle of the lattice.

The corner copy rule
- Top left is the headline. It states the finding.
- Bottom right is a different fact: a consequence, a mechanism or a proof. It never repeats or rephrases the headline. A render whose two corners say the same thing is a failed render.
- The signature is the mark and the words Compound Labs, set at headline scale.
Retired
The Kynth 50/50 clay system, the colourful corner card, the clay covers and the old film look. None of them is a reference for new work, and a file that still draws one is not a file to edit.
Surfaces
Each platform is composed at its own native size, against its own safe zone.

Voice
Information, not prose. The reader came for a fact, and the sentence gives them the fact.
- Name the reader and what they need from the sentence. Write that.
- One fact per sentence. Subject, verb, object.
- The reader’s own words, and the product’s own words. No metaphor for the product, no coined noun, no label standing in for a sentence.
- A length limit is met by dropping a fact, never by deleting the subject or the verb from a fact.
- Say what it does and what happened. A sentence that could be pasted onto a different product unchanged is not about this product.
Four shapes that are always cut
Announcing honesty
A clause that tells the reader the writer is being honest, in front of a sentence that could have just been honest. Cut the clause and keep the sentence.
Avoiding the word no
A phrase that softens an absence into a direction of travel. When the answer is no, the answer is no, and it needs no compensating strength beside it.
Framing instead of answering
A clause about the writer’s stance toward the answer, standing where the answer goes. Cut the frame and write the thing it was announcing.
Praising the product
An adjective or a verb that tells the reader the product is good, in place of what it does. State what it does. The reader decides the rest.
Two more, because both have damaged real copy: the lab never publishes a count of its own products, and it never publishes its own revenue figure.

Asking for something that is not here
A surface that needs artwork gets it from the media system, not from a new design. The renderer is landing-card.mjs, the object comes from 3d-image-gen, and both are described above. Write to hello@thecompound.tech.
