If you save a link to something and it quietly stops working a month later, you don't go hunting for it. You just lose it.

Soft Money Journal is a journal about money rituals, and every entry there was a short film first, so the page keeps the spoken lines as text. We build each entry's address out of its own opening sentence instead of numbering it: lowercase, punctuation dropped, first nine words. When two openings shorten to the same address, the second one takes its own record id on the end and the first is left alone. We never renumber, so a link somebody kept a month ago still lands on the entry they kept it for.
