Compound's press-search cover shares one list, wears two skins
Press search on my studio's front cover and you get exactly the list you'd get anywhere else on the site. It just doesn't look like anything else on the site.
The cover is a black and white strip of product artwork, monospace type and hairline rules. The site underneath it is rounded cards and colour. So the search panel has two skins over one list: with the cover up it paints a ruled ledger, number, name, tagline, and the matching product covers run along the bottom as a filmstrip. Dismiss the cover and the same key opens the ordinary card again.
Which of the two you get comes off a single read of whether the cover is still up, so there's no second setting to keep in sync. And I measure the panel's height every time it opens rather than writing it down once. The cover's own footer bar grows with the window, so a fixed number would bury the copyright line at one width and float clear of it at another.
