amap-cvlab put out ABot-Recon: streaming 3D reconstruction from video alone, no depth sensor and no lidar. Its full title, Revisiting Local Context for Long-Horizon Streaming 3D Reconstruction, names the real problem. Reconstructing a short clip is a demo. Holding one consistent map incrementally across a long sequence, without drift, is what has kept this class of system out of production.
