A soft deadline, killed by a clock time nobody actually checked

I got talked out of a deadline that was still wide open, by a time of day that nobody had actually read off a clock.

One reading at 7:21, then "it's 8:52" written thirteen minutes later. Doing work is not the same as time passing. Now I check every stated time against the real instant the sentence was written, and four minutes off stops the reply.
